Peeveys CPUC Farewell Love-Fest in December Disrupted by Smart Meter Protests

The December 18th 2014 meeting of the CPUC (a.k.a. the utility/telecommunications industry now acting as the California Public Utilities Commission) was the last for Mike Peeveyformer SoCal Edison CEO and mob bossa man who has driven the forced deployment of smart meters in California, and violated disability, privacy, and safety laws repeatedly to benefit his industry clients.

As of February 4th, Peeveys home has been searched by state agents and his computers and hard drives seized. This is in connection to felony corruption charges. Thousands of incriminating e-mails have been releasedtake a peek and help us sift through the haystack for that needle that will pop their smart grid balloon.

"VISIGOTH deliver the real-deal old-school goods with power and swagger to spare" - Revolver Magazine

"It's fresh, invigorating and hell, even inspiring" - Metal Temple

"If Magic: The Gathering had a soundtrack, this would be it." - SLUG Magazine

Salt Lake City Utah's Visigoth released their debut album The Revenant King today on Metal Blade Records. In conjunction with the release the band has partnered up with for an exclusive premiere of the video for the title track The Revenant King. Check out the stream of the Dave Brodksy directed clip at

Visigoth talks about the process of shooting the video: "This video was made in true DIY fashion. Almost all of the props and costumes were provided by us and our friends, and the actors in the narrative portion of the video are actually all friends of ours (Jason Stock, who plays the Usurper, works at the Wasatch/Squatter's co-op brewery with our drummer Mikey and can be seen on the bottle label for Hop Rising, the Squatter's signature double IPA; Jason Tarpey, who plays the King, is not only a good friend of ours but is also the singer for Eternal Champion, one of my favourite current US heavy metal bands; and Paul Black, who plays the Advisor, is a good buddy of ours and is the vocalist of local Salt Lake City metal band Turned to Stone). The outdoor shots were filmed in Oakley, a small rural mountain town in Utah. It was frigid cold out when we shot the narrative portion - Jason T's chainmail was freezing onto his skin by the end of it! The band performance shots were filmed in the Wasatch Brewery warehouse with nothing more than a minimal lighting rig and a fog machine provided by our buddy Brock Grossl (who used to play in Salt Lake City's now-defunct speed metal maniacs Castleaxe). Of course, none of this could have been realized without the immense talents of filmographer David Brodsky his partner in crime Allison Woest, it ended up looking much better than any of us were expecting! Their skill behind the camera and Brodsky's keen eye for editing are what really brought the project together. Without further ado, we hope you enjoy our little swords & sorcery offering. Cheers!"

Visigoth plays heavy metal that hearkens back to the golden age of ironclad riffwork and powerful vocals. They pay tribute to the titans of steel that left their mark on the history of the genre, and their earth-shaking sound echoes with a deep reverence for their roots. Visigoth goes above and beyond mere imitation, making their own musical mark on the genre they lovingly embrace. In Visigoth's realm, there are no frills, no gimmicks; there is only heavy metal.

The band's brand of heavy metal fit perfectly within the ranks of Metal Blade Records, who brought the band on board to release their debut full-length album. After signing with the label, Visigoth recorded The Revenant King. The collection of heavy metal tracks was engineered, mixed, and produced by Andy Patterson at Boar's Next Studio in Salt Lake City. Alan Douches at West Westside handled mastering to offer a final product that truly represents the finest in true metal.

On The Revenant King Jake Rogers's powerful vocals lead the charge, and when combined with the twin guitar attack of Leeland Campana, Jamieson Palmer, and the rhythm section of bassist Matt Brotherton and drummer Mikey Tee, form an immensely potent traditional heavy metal attack that fans of the genre would be unwise to ignore!

IF THESE TREES COULD TALK's Re-issues of First Two Albums Available on Metal Blade Records

Both Albums Streaming Along With Exclusive Interview At Heavy Blog is Heavy

Akron, Ohio post-rock outfit IF THESE TREES COULD TALK was properly formed in 2005 and has grown tremendously since their humble origins in Zack Kelly's basement as an instrumental project in college. They released their first EP in 2006 and their first full-length, "Above the Earth, Below the Sky," in 2009. Both were released independently, with vinyl released via The Mylene Sheath. Those laid the groundwork for their breakout 2012 release, "Red Forest."

Today Metal Blade releases re-issues of their first two albums "Above the Earth, Below the Sky" and "Red Forest," both of which and can be ordered HERE. As these albums are being released, the band is currently hard at work at what will be their Metal Blade debut later in 2015. The band spoke about working on the new album, the reissues and more with Heavy Blog is Heavy HERE. Both albums are also streaming exclusively courtesy of Heavy Blog is Heavy HERE.

"Red Forest" was independently released by IF THESE TREES COULD TALK in March of 2012 (Science of Silence pressed the vinyl). The nine song, 48-minute long album was self produced and engineered/mixed by Zack Kelly and Rick Fuller throughout much of 2011 at NEMeadow Studios in Bath, OH. Will Putney mastered the album and Charlie Wagers (The Fray, mewithoutYou, Caspian) of Three Bears Design was at the helm for art direction and design. This album was followed by a three-week sold out European tour in 2012, as well as a flurry of licensing music for games and film. Music from the band's catalog has been heard in Sony PS3 titles, and on NBC, MTV, VH1, the NFL, in videos for Vans, and for projects on the Sundance Film Festival. "Red Forest" quietly became a smashing success. Cumulatively, the band has sold over 20,000 copies, with 3,000 on vinyl alone across all of their albums.

As 2014 progressed, IF THESE TREES COULD TALK began work on their third full-length album. It was around that time that the band was approached by Metal Blade Records and signed with the label. The band continues with an independent and entirely self-motivated approach to their music as they prepare to release their Metal Blade debut later this year.

"Sun Eater," the fourth full-length album from Job for a Cowboy, was released in 2014 via Metal Blade Records worldwide. The response to the record was overwhelmingly positive, with Decibel Magazine conceding and saying "Fuck it, I can admit when I'm wrong Turns out that, while I was busy pointedly not paying attention to them, these deathcore progenitors actually became a pretty damn good band." Alternative Press Magazine also declared in their 4.5/5 star review that "they've become a full-on progressive death metal bandthe songs have progressive sweep and epic power, at times recalling Opeth's heavier workSun Eater is one of 2014's best metal albums, period." Praise for "Sun Eater" burned through blogosphere and resonated with fans. "Sun Eater" debuted at #91 on the Billboard Top 200, and #5 on the Billboard Hard Music albums chart. On the day of release, the album was #2 on the iTunes metal charts. Listen to "Sun of Nihility" and order your copy of Job for a Cowboy's "Sun Eater" now at

Destrage debut "Where the Things Have No Colour" acoustic performance via Metal Hammer UK

Bloodstock performance announced

Milan, Italy's Destrage recently put together an acoustic arrangement for "Where the Things Have No Colour" from "Are You Kidding Me? No.", the band's latest album released in 2014 on Metal Blade. The band captured the acoustic performance on video, complete with a string section! Destrage fans who watched their studio documentary will be familiar with Larsen Premoli's work, and this time around, he was responsible for the string trio arrangement for this song. The video was recorded at RecLab studios and can be seen now exclusively at!

Destrage vocalist Paolo Colavolpe discusses the video and song: "Where The Things Have No Colour has a very personal meaning to us. This song talks about certain moments, it's hard to explain them but if you felt like this once in your life you will find the lyrics extremely familiar. We talked a lot about the possibility of making an acoustic version of one of our songs, and this felt like being the perfect occasion. Our biggest thanks goes to Larsen Premoli who arranged the strings trio and made this version possible. This video is dedicated to all the people and friends involved in our project, who always support us during tours, recording sessions, video making, bullshits and everything that concerns the band universe. You know who you are. We hope you're going to enjoy this version, even if it sounds a bit different from our standards. We wish you all an amazing 2015!"

In other news, Destrage will be returning to the UK for the Bloodstock Festival! The festival is at Catton Park in Derbyshire, UK from August 6-9. Destrage will be performing on the 9th along with Cannibal Corpse, Ensiferum, Rob Zombie, Sepultura, and more! For more info, the full lineup, and tickets, visit:

Destrage comments on the performance: "England! We're going to meet you again this summer at Bloodstock Festival. We really can't wait to kid you live while sharing the stage with such great bands! Be ready."

KAPTN The Game

P.O. Box 17001
29080 Mlaga - Spain

We have the privilege of announcing the first incorporation to the Darkness Within, roster, one of those rare hidden and primitive gems whose rough black shine of hate and harshness resounds so powerful and so authentic that its really hard to resist its influence...

Because Svartden is one of those projects that you cant easily find nowadays... their music send us back to the early days of Black Metal, mixing classic influences from bands such as Immortal, Zyklon-B, Satyricon or Gorgorothbut, the most important thing, playing it with such an authenticity that they seem to be abducted from the fucking Norway in the beginning of the nineties...

Nevertheless Svartden is a project started in 2012 by old well-known members of the underground scene from Mlaga (Spain), also members of celebrated hordes such as Wulfheim or Werther, with the major aim of returning to the original Norwegian Black Metal sound of the nineties or, much better, to that primary spirit with which its so difficult to impregnate today a Black Metal album..

Svartden not just get it, the 6-tracks that conform Black, the debut EP that we are introducing you today, go much deeper because the band managed to add a very special touch, so it would be really unfair just to keep the reference to those old Black Metal glories... Svartden is what all of them are no longer, attitude, passion and spirit, a band absolutely far from all kind of actual trends or fashions, just pure and true Black Metal...

And to make your mouth water, finally here you have a little trailer with different fragments taken from the six tracks of Black, the debut EP of Svartden...

Since it could not be any other way, a really so special album deserves an equally special presentation, so Black will be released in one and only print-run limited to only 66 hand-numbered copies in our already classic deluxe format, the exclusive A5 sized digifile that you all already know, and for this time the CD will come also on black shining polycarbonate...

Keep posted, this release promises to be a collectors item for all true self-respecting Black Metal fan, just for the true Black Metal elite!!

Soon on Darkness Within...

From: PHOENIX NEW TIMES (weekly)

Most Influential Arizona Punk Rock Records: #3 -- The Feederz' Jesus>br>
Consider this question: Are you an Earwig?

Let the idea roll around on your brain for a minute. Longtime Phoenicians know the bug well, even if they haven't seen one for a while. Are you a human equivalent? Are you even a 10th earwig?

More than likely, this is an important distinction to make, especially if you are to interact with Frank Discussion, who played guitar and sang lead vocals for The Feederz during the entirety of their career. Discussion doesn't care for earwigs, human or otherwise, and the inspiration for the title track of their influential Jesus came from walking around the Arizona State University campus one day in the late '70s with a used Kotex hanging out of his mouth. more at:

blue transparent vinyl 2xLP limited to 300 copies + MP3 download code: A Strangely Isolated Place/ASIPV 002 Ambient/Drone/Electronica / 15.99
After the success of the label's debut vinyl release, Uncharted Places, A Strangely Isolated Place returns with Europe, a meticulously curated compilation inspired by some of the most beautiful locations on the continent. Spanning ambient, modern classical, drone and electronica, it's a journey experienced through the eyes and ears of the artists, capturing their memories, travels, tributes, and exquisite musical depictions. Beginning with a peaceful ode to her Greek home, Dalot finds harmony on Kalathas beach, Halo is enraptured by a wet city scene in Zurich, and 36 tries to make sense of London's countless contrasts. In more remote parts, Horizontal Excursions (aka Roger Martinez) discovers the symphony of life on the subtropical island of La Gomera, Bjorn Rohde paints a vivid picture of the Pyrenees, and Marsen Jules finds paradise in the Andalusian mountains. From cosmopolitan utopias to breath-taking cornucopias, every track on Europe is immersed in discovery. Effortlessly traversing geography and emotions, it's a collection that revels in borderless ambition but also celebrates the intricacies that makes every passage unique. Closer to sea-level, Dextro finds inspiration in the Isle of Barra's oceanic panorama, Parks channels the coastal howl of Helsingborg, and Carbon Based Lifeforms uncovers delicate harmonies in the Spring-time forests of East Gothenburg. Finally, Yagya brings Europe to its beautiful conclusion. Alone on Reykjavik's north shore, the iconic producer forgets himself, and the city behind him, as the infinite ocean horizon commands his lost gaze. Personal and poignant, the album artwork also reflects the craft of the music with a specially commissioned, mixed-print and hand-painted piece by Nick Brzostowski created exclusively for the release.

Available on limited edition double-transparent blue vinyl (300 copies with digital download), Europe was manufactured by Furnace MFG / Pallas (DE), distributed by Juno, and mastered by Ghostly International's, Rafael Anton Irisarri.

SECRET RAVE: Secret Rave 01
limited hand-numbered hand-stamped transparent vinyl 12": Art-Aud Italy/AASR 01
Techno/Breakbeat / 6.49
Sales Notes: This release comes from a misterious guy with two untitled tracks on the a-side that have the intention to open the project and marking guidelines and sounds that you will hear on the whole series. On the b-side you find the remix of the track "Untitled 02" by the swedish artist Rivet and the "Secret Rave Mix" of "Rhythm Sticks" by G-23, originally released on London based label No Logo, done by the same author of the two originals. The graphic of SECRET RAVE 01 is composed with a photo by Molly Macindoe. Heavily influenced by her father, a world traveller and architect, and her mother, a university lecturer and author, she developed a love for international travel and visited many faraway places - documenting the many diverse cultures she encountered. However, her attention was always drawn back to the free party community and, since 1997, she has participated in and documented the underground scene. Also she has already released a book called "Out Of Order" that is the culmination of ten years of work and a photographic celebration of the free party scene. Only 300 pressed....

white vinyl 12": Key Vinyl Germany/KEY 006 Techno / 5.49
Sales Notes: After an A-side debut on M_Red Ltds heady 10 series, shadowy outfit Overall Severity return with their first full outing for KEY Vinyl. Much like the slabs of steely sonic wares that have paved the way before it, Knowing The Healing presents three works of on-point dance floor material weve come to associate with the underground tastemaker. Explain Pain is the EPs aggravated opener. A pounding kick and itchy percussion unfurls into a din of claps and noises, spliced with melodious peals and a low-slung sort of groove. Backfiring Nerves is one of those cool peak-time weapons: frantic yet subtle, deeply groovy and plied with much-loved vintage crashes. Parasympathetic then concludes in the form of a chugging basement bomb awash with bleary acid tones, crystal hats and muted dissonant chimes. All in all, Knowing The Healing marks a powerful entry into the ring from these ones-to-watch newcomers.

Sales Notes: the nose of clarity (one + two) is obscure and mystical techno with a hypnotism rhythm construct. part one is coming for the long nights in the clubs and bringing darkness dance moves. part two is more deeper and darker with a slowly trippy and layered loop sound. on the flip side the obsession (from dontbe on acid ) dwntmpos rework is downtempo sound in perfection. the rhythm is going straight in the head and bring the deepness with a slowly pitched vocal in front of all understanding. the second rework is more dub influenced with warm chords, delays and echos from a other galaxy. The vinyl is hand stamped and numbered and comes with a A4 graphic art print. Mastering by Xergio Crdoba at Eternal Midnight Mastering Studio Madrid, Spain

Known for his role in The Pain Machinery and Severe Illusion, Stockholm native Anders Karlsson has more recently begun to explore similar strands of industrial and EBM in a solo capacity as Celldod, issuing several limited cassettes over the course of 2014. Those without the facilities to consume cassettes will be happy to see some of this Celldod material now issued on vinyl thanks to the efforts of Canadian label Suction Records. Some six tracks deep, Pulsdisco features material from the two cassettes of the same name Karlsson released last year and those that like their EBM minimalist and without vocals will find plenty to enjoy here.

JUNE: Dominion
LP: Suction Canada/SUCTION 029
Electro/Synth / 9.25
Seemingly creatively reinvigorated by last year's Skanfrom album from Sleeparchive producer Roger Semsroth, Toronto label Suction Records are approaching 2015 with vigour commencing with this fine debut album from June. The main creative focus of Berlin-based Greek artist Tsampikos Fronas, June caught the ear of Suction with the release of the Golden Era 12" through his own eponymous label last year and the eight track Dominion is a chance for the artist to fully showcase his brand of synth wave. Hardware step sequencers were used to sync and control the arsenal of classic synths and drum machines at June's disposal with Martial Canterel and Xeno & Oaklander artist Sean McBride offered as a compelling comparison by the label. Classic synth-based electro done in a modern manner!

Big Dark Love

For a band that has built its formidable, nearly 15-year career around a meticulous consideration for the effects of pressure, release, bombast, ecstasy, and highest-highs vs. lowest-lows, it is something to say that this is Murder By Deaths most dynamic release to date. On their seventh full-length album and first since their 2012 Bloodshot debut Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon, the bands signature sound (rootsy indie rock, cinematic gothic ballads, and rousing pub rock shout-alongs) mixes with enlivening new stylistic elements (touches of pop, synth-y electronics, and psych rock) only hinted at on previous albums.

Big Dark Love reflects a different, bigger, more complex side of Murder By Death. As hinted in the title, the 10 songs circle a central theme of love, only in this case, the oft-traveled topic is examined through non-traditional kaleidoscopes: the love of a parent for their child, the struggle between unconditional love and morality, loving to excess. Throughout life, as in song, there can sometimes be a dusky patina of despair overlaying glints of hope.

What characterizes the album is the tension inherent in a balancing act between the melancholic and the inspirational - much like signature Spiritualized or Morphine - and textures both synthetic and authentic in a way that late 90s-era Flaming Lips hadnt figured out yet. The opener I Shot an Arrow leads with a romantically sullen warmth of shapely electric bass and swaying synth chords, backed by a boomy groove laid down by drummer Dagan Thogerson. Lead singer/guitarist Adam Turla pounces between notes and commands with his gravelly timbre, I had a dream too big for the world/ Get me out of here/ Take me to the edge of town/ To the underground/ It cant be that far.

Elsewhere, there are currents of lustrous simplicity: take the pop-affected magnetism as heard in the fanfare of punchy horn lines supplied by keys/horns/auxiliary player and new addition David Fountain in Solitary One and Turlas heat-seeking vocal harmonies and show-stopping high notes of Send Me Home. The Last Thing is ruminative, driving folk, propelled by banjo, jangly acoustic guitar, tambourine, and Matt Armstrongs charging bass. And later, Natural Pearl scuffles along like a punk rock Flying Burrito Brothers, replete with weepy pedal steel and dancing snare pattern.

Through all sounds and textures, sometimes it is the space between the notes that makes Big Dark Love so deep. The vast dynamics take on new meaning through layered, far-ranging and deftly orchestrated songwriting of the album title-track and It Will Never Die. The sonic panorama features a minimalist backdrop of warbly synth, Sarah Balliets melodic intertwining cello lines, and seismic shifts from a cavernous hush to a climatic, soaring summit, full of Explosions In The Sky reverb and a chest-thumping low end.

Big Dark Love was recorded at La La Land in Louisville, KY in the summer of 2014. It was produced by Murder By Death and Kevin Ratterman, and mixed by John Congleton.

Dirty Shirt: the big winner of two of Romania's most important music awards!

The band is happy to announce that is has won two of the most prestigious trophies awarded by the Romanian music industry - "Best Romanian Rock Ambassador" at Metalhead Awards, and "Best Romanian Metal Band" at Maximum Rock Awards.
Moreover, as a result of these amazing achievements, the band has attracted the attention of leading brands like Washburn and Randall, both of which have selected the group to represent them internationally, by signing an endorsement deal!
"We are overwhelmed by joy. To receive this kind of appreciation from the music industry, and not only, is the best thing that can happen to a band and it gives us fresh powers to keep doing what we are doing! Do not forget that the new album, 'Dirtylicious', is on its way and we can guarantee that is is...award quality! Stay tuned", said the band members.
Currently, Dirty Shir t is working on the follow-up of the internationally acclaimed "Freak Show" and has unveiled the cover of the record, signed by renowned graphic artist Costin Chioreanu , who has previously worked with names like Arch Enemy, At The Gates, Opeth, Primordial etc, and is one of the most appreciated designers in the industry. The artwork can be seen below.
"Dirtylicious" promises to be one of the most interesting and groundbreaking releases on the Romanian and European metal stage. The band managed to build a completely new musical vocabulary, based on a sonic skeleton made up of Dirty Shirt' s unique blend of genres.
Even if we encounter the first experiments with this brand of fusion metal on the previous releases of the band, which included hits like "Bad Apples", "Freak Show" or "Saraca Inima Me" , "Dirtylicious" will take everything a step further. The album is built on folk elements, and the studio sessions were done with artists who are masters of traditional instruments, like violin, clarinet, accordion, dulcimer and many more. Together, these musicians form the Transylvanian Folkcore Orchestra.

An instrumental preview of the album can be heard below.

Dirty Shirt is invited to perform at the most important festivals in Romania - Rockstadt Extreme Fest, and Romanian Rock Meeting, alongside some of the most acclaimed international names in the industry.

Temporary Residence Limited

This is one that's been stewing for a while now, and it's been so torturous to keep a secret for so long...but the wait was so worth it! Guillermo S. Herren returns as Prefuse 73 for his first new album in four years! And as if to make up for lost time, he's not just giving us one, but THREE new records! In addition to the stunning new album, Rivington No Rio, he'll also be dropping two new EPs as part of a triptych of releases. The artwork even fits together to form an eye-poping 36-inch double-sided panorama! The entire package is unbelievably brilliant and beautiful and forthward-thinking; in other words, it's classic Prefuse 73.

Pre-Order Here:

Rivington No Rio

Rivington No Rio revels in the kind of compassionate complexity that marks Prefuse 73's greatest works, with a profound new element added to the mix: Patience. Herren's ability to marry the manic to the melodic has always been uncanny, but here it feels downright magical as the songs inhale with his trademark sense of urgencythen exhale in longer, more revealing breaths. The prismatic textures that have long been a staple of Prefuse 73 are bound to beats and melodies with the spirit of hip-hop and the subtlety of modern minimalism. The album's guests treat the material with a hushed respect: Roc Nation songwriter and Jessie Ware collaborator Sam Dew turns "Infrared" into a sublimely soulful, dimly-lit portrait of inverted R&B; Milo & Busdriver's vicious, rapid-fire verses contrast a pastoral downbeat to brilliant effect; and elsewhere, Pinback's Rob Crow and Latin electronic-folk crooner Helado Negro navigate splintered tropics with passive grace. As a stand-alone album, Rivington No Rio ranks extraordinarily high in the Prefuse 73 canon. As a centerpiece to an epic triptych that includes the Forsyth Gardens and Every Color of Darkness EPs, it's a new peak from a pioneer who appears to only just now be hitting his prime. For an artist who has played an undeniably integral role in the careers of so many influential artists, it's not just refreshing to hear him return to top's revelatory.

Forsyth Gardens

It has been four years since Guillermo S. Herren released anything significant from his most famous and respected moniker, Prefuse 73 (though he did keep busy with live shows, collaborations, and remixes). That's a long time for virtually any artist, but it's an eternity for Herren, whose first three Prefuse 73 albums dropped in the span of four years. As if to make up for lost time, 2015 will see the release of not one, but three major works from Prefuse 73. After several albums that saw Herren progressively drift away from the beatmaking prowess that made him synonymous with emotionally resonant, damaged hip-hop, hes found himself reinvigorated thanks in large part to an emotionally draining, creatively cashed few years. As Herren puts it, "Ive come back to hyper focusing immersing myself in the sounds, rhythms, and formations that created Prefuse 73 in the first place. Recently, Ive found a new life in the whole process of refining what Ive created over the years as Prefuse. Right now I'm at my most confident and comfortable since 05/06." It shows. The first of a triptych of new recordings, Forsyth Gardens revels in the kind of compassionate complexity that marks Prefuse 73's greatest works. His ability to marry the manic to the melodic is uncanny, and here it feels downright magical.
